I really want to learn to dance because it looks so cool and I feel like I could do it! I’m moderately flexible and I have some good core muscles. I’m just wondering if it’s a bad idea, just out of the question, or if I should give it a shot, and if I should then how? What should i do to start to learn?

honestly, girls at my studio were accepting of the new girls, but you would most likely be put in a class of really young girls, because you missed the core technique that those students have been learning since they were 4. if you have the money, hire a private tutor, but do your homework first. You want a teacher that is knowlegable in the different art forms and more importantly they need to be practicing safe methods of dance. I know a lot of students that picked an outside trainer and they ended up working too hard and breaking a bone. It wouldnt hurt to visit a few dance schools in the area, see where they think you are at already, where they will place you, and what the cost will be. there are also schools that compete a lot, and some schools like mine, that never competed, but we did a lot of community shows and projects. these are things you will need to ask. Competing is very expensive, and time consuming. you will eat, sleep, live and practice with those people. I would call around some local schools, see what they can do for you, more importantly see where they think you are and how far you can go in the time you have. good luck.
